SUMMARY:Dreams Under Turbulence - Online Experiential Group
DESCRIPTION:Dreams and their secret language have been the fascination of many for a long time now. While some of us have really vivid dreams and enjoy the stories they tell\, others have a hard time remembering. Often\, they reflect our present difficulties and help process feelings that are suppressed. In addition\, dreams also help us imagine new possibilities and alternative paths into the future. Perhaps this creative and visionary aspect of dreams will lead to us new ways of channeling the collective conscious in surviving and living a meaningful life through this ongoing socio-political and cultural turbulence.\n‘Dreams under turbulence’ is an online experiential space where a group of people come together to share dreams\, form associations\, discover the embedded meanings\, expand the social thought process\, and make the invisible visible. It is primarily a social group process where the focus is on the dream and not the dreamer. This is not a dream interpretation group\, although each of you may have your personal takeaways from the social process you engage in.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is for you if\n\n\n\n\n– You are fascinated by the mysetry around dreams\n– You wonder about the inherent meaning and purpose of your dreams\n– You enjoy a collective process of exploration\n– You have the desire to discover and learn something new\n– You wish to share and connect with the larger community\n– You are looking for a space to belong\n– You want to experience transformative thinking\n\nREGISTER\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDates\n\n\n\nMay – 9\, 16\, 23\, 30\nJune – 6\, 13\, 20\, 27\nJuly – 4\, 11\, 18\, 25\nKindly check your availability for all dates before registering\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\n\nSaturday 09:00 to 10:30 AM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n3 month Online Group – 12 Sessions\nEach session is for a duration of 90 minutes\n₹300 per session\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the facilitator\n\n\n\n\nShama Parkhe\, Co-founder & Clinical Director\nPsychotherapist\, Psychodrama Practitioner\, Group Analyst in Training\nShama has been working with adults in group settings using both group analytic and psychodramatic methodology. SUMMARY:Risk Assessment and Management In Psychotherapy - Series of 6 webinars
DESCRIPTION:As mental health professionals\, it can be challenging to work with patients who present with significant risk. While we may feel fairly confident in our abilities as clinicians\, a patient who is threatening to take his life can evoke strong feelings of anxiety. It can become quite challenging to reflect\, to draw boundaries and be able to provide support and containment without feeling overwhelmed. The 6 part webinar is designed keeping this experience in mind. The series will combine teaching and reflections on risk assessment and management as we have known it through our work and experience. Through this engagement\, we hope to address questions about the difference in roles\, crises and risks and structures that help with containment.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nObjectives\n\n\n\n\n– Understand and assess crises and the escalation of risk(s)\n\n– Learn how to draw a comprehensive risk management plan\n– Develop the capacity to provide support during crisis\n– Learn to work with a team of professionals\n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nMental health professionals – Counselors\, therapists\, social workers\, clinical psychologists\, support workers – working with individuals who present with significant risks; such as self-harm\, harm to others\, suicidal ideation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\n\n\n\nBatch 1 – 6th May to 10th June\nEvery Wednesday 4:30 – 5:30 PM\n\n\nBatch 2 – 7th May to 11th June\n\n\nEvery Thursday 3:30 – 4:30 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n₹200 per session\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFacilitators\n\n\n\n– Ishani Badyal\, Psychotherapist\n– Mohit Sharma\, Clinical Manager & Psychotherapist\n– Pratiksha Tewari\, Psychotherapist\n\n\nIshani\, Mohit\, and Pratiksha are a part of our risk management team and have been working with and supporting at-risk patients for over three years.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact\n\n\n\nKedar K Rao\nkedar@hanknunninstitute.org

We cannot recreate the same experience virtually\, and therefore will not be offering the same online.\nHowever\, we are hosting two Meet & Greet + Q&A sessions on 18 and 19 April from 14:30 – 16:30.\nThis is an opportunity\n– to meet the Faculty as well as former students of the Foundation Course\n– to gain a basic understanding of Group Analysis\n– to understand the 4-5 year long training programme\, and\n– to learn about the process of qualifying as a Group Analyst\nFree and Open for all those interested in group work and group processes.\nTo register\, please contact anando@hanknunninstitute.org\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA precursor to the Foundation Course in Group Analytic Psychotherapy\n16 – 17 – 18 April 2020\nThis 3 day workshop offers participants the opportunity to experience being in small therapeutic groups. In addition\, the seminar sessions will introduce the basic principles of Group Analysis.\nThe intention of the workshop is twofold:\na) to help participants judge whether they would like to embark on a longer journey in group psychotherapy\,\nb) to get a taste of what might be expected of them if they were to enroll for the Foundation Year.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nFor those interested and involved in working with groups\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy Group Analysis ?\n\n\n\nGroup Analysis is a powerful therapeutic medium that focuses on the relationship between the individual and the group\, emphasizing the essentially social nature of human experience. Our philosophy is that as personal difficulties arise in groups\, groups are the best place to explore\, understand and try and resolve them.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSome Learning Outcomes:\n\n\n\n– Recognize the effect of group dynamics on self and others\n– Increased self-awareness and self-reflexivity\n– Understand group dynamics from a Group-Analytic perspective\n– Understand the meaning of fundamental Group Analytic terms such as Dynamic   Administration\, Mirroring\, Resonance\, Matrix etc.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Facilitators\n\n\n\n\nDr Farhad Dalal\, PhD\nPsychotherapist and Group Analyst\nHis first degree was in Physics. His first psychotherapy training in the early 1980s was in the Humanistic Traditions with the Minster Centre in London. SUMMARY:Taking the Group (really) Seriously - Online Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: I will begin by describing how and why I came to write Taking the Group Seriously. Through this ‘story’ I will flag up some of the questions about the human condition that I was struggling with at that time (and still continue do to!). I will then draw on the works of Norbert Elias and S.H.Foulkes to elaborate some of the key elements of Radical Group Analytic Theory\, specifically\, figuration\, power and the idea of existence as ‘process’.\n\nRegister\n\nZoom link will be sent to confirmed participants\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeminar Leader\nDr Farhad Dalal\, PhD\nHis first degree was in Physics. His first psychotherapy training in the early 1980s was in the Humanistic Traditions with the Minster Centre in London. He then trained with the Institute of Group Analysis (London)\, qualifying in 1991. He obtained his PhD in 2001. Previously he was an Associate Fellow on the DMan programme at the University of Hertfordshire’s Business School and Visiting Professor at the Open University in the Netherlands. He has published numerous papers on a number of subjects that include psychoanalysis\, group analysis\, racism\, politics and ethics\, as well as four books.\nAbout the book \nIn this critique and extension of the work of S.H.Foulkes\, Farhad Dalal presents a thorough contemporary appraisal of the theory of group analysis and its relevance to psychoanalysis as a whole. The author argues that Foulkes failed to develop a specific set of group concepts\, relying instead on the traditional individualistic framework of Freud. The book explores why Foulkes failed to escape from the orthodox mother-infant paradigm and offers a new post-Foulkesian interpretation of group analytic theory. \nTaking the Group Seriously is divided into six parts which trace the history of ideas behind group work\, and draws on a wide range of subjects to support its thesis: not only psychoanalysis and group analysis\, but also sociology\, biology\, chaos theory\, genetics\, economics\, game theory and discourse theory. Using the author’s practical group experience and including the latest ideas on the subject\, this volume will be of interest to all those working in the field of psychoanalysis. \n\nBuy the Book

SUMMARY:Communication in Groups
DESCRIPTION:“The language of the symptom\, although already a form of communication\, is autistic. It mumbles to itself secretly\, hoping to be overheard…” (Foulkes and Anthony 1957\, pg. 260)\nMembers of a group bring to it their ‘illness’ – the disturbances and conflicts that can not\, yet\, be articulated. These are expressed in the content of their story\, the manner in which it is told\, their relationship with individual members and the group as-a-whole\, their presence and absence and how they spend their time in and with the group. The task of the conductor and the group is to\, then\, help members become aware of and voice disruptions in communication.\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeminar Leaders\nSwathi Prabhu\nPsychotherapist\nSwathi is a lover of languages\, books\, and the conquest of new words. She works with adolescents and young adults in Individual and Group Psychotherapy. She has a Masters in Psychology from the Indian Institute of Psychology and Research\, Bangalore and is a certified Graphoanalyst. She believes that group spaces created with a therapeutic intent give a voice to silenced distressed. She is most fascinated by how groups rhythmically flow from chaos to creativity. She has recently completed the Foundation year of Group Analytic training and is on her way to becoming a group analyst.\n\n  \nMohit Sharma\nPsychotherapist\nMohit’s curiosity about group analytic work was aroused by his therapy. Over the last few years\, he has become interested in creating spaces within consulting rooms and the larger community where people can come together and try to have difficult conversations. He has recently begun his journey in group analysis and is eager to share his appreciation and experiences of groups and how they work.

SUMMARY:The Role of a Group Therapist
DESCRIPTION:According to S.H. Foulkes\, conducting / facilitating a group is a creative activity. He said\, ‘We will consider the conductor as a therapist in the more specific sense. This is a creative activity which needs much intuition. The conductor has to live with the group\, expose himself to the currents permeating it and him\, try to divine the meaning of what is going on and the relevance of this meaning. Only in the light of such an orientation will he decide on his various interventions\, their nature and their timing. His fundamental attitude has been termed the analytic attitude’. (Foulkes\, 1975)\nThe content of this seminar is a combination of her experience of running therapy groups for about 3 years now as well as being a member of different therapeutic groups both in India and abroad. \n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeminar Leader\nShama Parkhe\nPsychotherapist & Psychodrama Practitioner\nShama has been working with adults in group settings using both group analytic and psychodramatic methodology. SUMMARY:HANSIKA
DESCRIPTION:Hansika was conceptualized\, choreographed and premiered to a full house in Bengaluru in 2018\, followed by two successful shows in Bangalore and Delhi respectively. As a dance practitioner\, Sharmila Mukerjee has always envisioned bridging boundaries and uniting cultures through a single thread of art. Hansika is the second step towards this vision\, her maiden production being Sookshma based on a Kannada folk tale\, with a social message regarding environment.  \nThe ballet originating from a Russian folklore raconteurs the story of Odette\, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse. Following a gripping story of love\, deceit and despair\, the end marks a file of swans flocking to a safer haven\, their present home being polluted by humans for generations on end. The production in the garb of an Indian classical dance form draws a close parallel to classical ballet as we know it. Hansika explores how ballet and libretto can be adapted to Indian classical raaga (music)\, taal (rhythm) and laaya (pace). The score of the production is original\, replete with Indian classical elements and instruments like pakhwaj\, flute\, sitar and diverse rhythmic syllables. Tchaikovsky’s original theme shows up in the music structure time and again.  \nThe dance narrative in Odissi is a detour from traditional ballet aesthetics\, yet unanimously speaks of humanity and sustainability. The closing scene showing the swans flocking to cleaner waters conveys a strong message of taking care of nature and not push it beyond the point of redemption. \n\n\n\nhttp://34.106.126.84/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/VID_129651121_191026_496.mp4\n\n\nBOOK MY TICKET\n\n\nABOUT SHARMILA MUKERJEE\nSharmila Mukerjee is the founder and artistic director of Sanjali Centre for  Odissi Dance in Bengaluru which was established in 2004. \nAfter completing her schooling in Loreto House\, and graduating from Presidency College\, Kolkata\, Sharmila followed her one and only passion – dance. Initiated into the Uday Shankar style of dance\, Sharmila\, at the young age of sixteen played the main  role of Chandalika in Tagore’s dance drama “Chandalika” during the poet’s birth anniversary celebrations in Calcutta\, and caught the attention of the critics who wrote about her inborn grace and amazing stage presence. \nThereafter\, Sharmila started learning Odissi under the tutelage of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra from 1984 in Kolkata. Rigorous\, intensive training in Odissi continued at her Guru’s residence in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra himself accompanied Sharmila on the mardala for her Rangapravesh in 1988\, and   thereafter\, Sharmila started performing Odissi as a solo artist and in some productions directed by Guruji. She also took lessons in Abhinay from Smt. Kalanidhi Narayan and attended workshops conducted by late Smt. Sanjukta Panigrahi. \nSharmila initially taught Odissi at Calcutta School of Music and also looked after the administration of that institute for a year\, as Secretary of Indian Music Section. She has worked very closely with hearing impaired children as she taught dance and movement therapy at The Oral School for Deaf Children\, Kolkata and choreographed and directed many productions with these children\, the most notable among them\, being “Ramayan” a full length dance drama in which more than 50 hearing impaired children participated. After moving to Bengaluru\, she also taught dance at the Sheila Kothwala Institute for the Deaf and for a few years.
