SUMMARY:Journeying - Transitions | Journalling Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Journeying is back from a short break! Moving away from places and faces\, or experiencing a shift in ourselves and in relationships— there are so many kinds of transitions we experience as we go through life. Join us as we reflect on what transitions bring up for us and what it means to us\, as individuals and as a community. \nJourneying is a space where people can come together to journal in the quiet presence of others. Whether through writing or art\, participants are free to express themselves any way they choose. Other than being a space to individually engage with the topic\, we hope that it will become a space to share our thoughts and reflections in the safety of a community. \nPlease note that this is not a journaling workshop. It is a space for beginners\, daily journallers and everyone in between to come together. It is free and open to all. \nDATE: 15th April 2023 (Saturday)\nTIME: 11AM IST\nPLACE: Zoom\nREGISTER HERE \n

SUMMARY:Theatre of the Mind - TWO (A Short Film by Satyajit Ray)
DESCRIPTION:Theatre of the Mind is a community for movie enthusiasts. We will be screening short films which will be followed by an open discussion on the thoughts\, feelings\, and personal experiences evoked in the process. We also plan to discuss feature films and explore the emerging themes. The idea is to start a dialogue on the impact of cinema on our psyche and everyday lives. The space will be held once a month on a Sunday\, and it will be free and open to all. \nTHIS MONTH: ‘Two’ is a short film directed by Satyajit Ray in 1964. The story looks at two boys from rather opposing sections of the society\, tugged in a war of toys and musical instruments\, portraying the bigger realities\, all being communicated through a house window. \nDATE: 19th February\, 2023 \nTIME: 12 PM- 1:15 PM IST \nVENUE: Online on Zoom \nREGISTER HERE: https://bit.ly/3XCGOsW

SUMMARY:Chai-logue #81: Search for a Village
DESCRIPTION:In the age of isolation\, independence\, and individual(ism)\, it’s difficult to get in touch with our need for community. Our urban \nidentities often leave a lot unanswered in terms of how we define community in our current setups. \nWe’re opening up Chai-logue to musings about questions of why do we need community\, how do we identify it\, and where do we find it? Is the idea of the community still relevant or do we experience it more as a nostalgia? \nRemember to bring your cuppas to hold your thoughts\, feelings and chai! \n\nREGISTER\n\n\n(Zoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nFree and open to all.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDates\n\n\n\nSaturday\, 28 Jan 2023 \nKindly check your availability before registering \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\n\n5:00 to 7:00 pm

SUMMARY:Chai-logue 80: Kahi Suni - Reflections on the impact of oral narratives
DESCRIPTION:The images of a bedtime story being told\, or a bonfire horror tale being shared\, or hearing someone regale the times gone by – invoke nostalgia\, warmth\, and sometimes hurt and longing as well. We are made of stories\, and not all of them are preserved in tomes. Some just remain as memories that allow us to time travel. Oral narratives and story telling have long served to preserve cultures\, and define futures. And at its core\, they have provided for a space for conversation\, holding and sharing in the spirit of community. \nThis Chai-logue\, we’re inviting you to come share\, listen\, mourn or celebrate the many narratives inherited and narratives lost to time. And of course — don’t forget your cup of tea! \n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment* \n*all payments are non-refundable \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nFree and open to all.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDates\n\n\n\nSaturday\, 19 Nov 2022 \nKindly check your availability before registering \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\n\n5:00 to 7:00 pm

SUMMARY:Chai-logue 79 - It's Not Funny
DESCRIPTION:We all know the power of humour. In its various forms\, it can be a way to cope\, to coax\, and to coup. So who gets to define what is funny? What are the things we try to hide behind humour? As boundaries\, tolerance\, prejudice\, and power get mixed up with humour\, we’re taking a look at what a little laugh can bring out in different spaces.\nWe’ll be waiting with our chai and some bad jokes. See you on Saturday! As always\, feel free to come talk\, listen\, and laugh (or not?)\n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nFree and open to all.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDates\n\n\n\nSaturday\, 24th September ’22\nKindly check your availability before registering\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\n\n5:00 to 7:00 pm

SUMMARY:ReadAbsorbthink! Lecture - Why should I trust you ?
DESCRIPTION:A significant aspect of the therapeutic process is helping individuals experience safety in a relationship. The therapeutic relationship\, like most others\, is based on trust. But unlike relationships outside the therapy room\, this one often appears to be one sided.\nJoin us for this month’s ReadAbsorbThink! Lecture where we take a dive into the therapist’s experiences\, both as a service user and a provider\, exploring the many questions around how trust is built\, broken\, repaired\, and sometimes lost. The discussion is open to everyone who has struggled to ask and answer “Why should I trust you?”\nThe invitation is to learn and share what the books may not always be able to teach us about perhaps the most essential but difficult experience we have in relationships – Trust!\n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nReadAbsorbThink! or RAT! is an academic space for those interested in the field of mental health – service users\, psychologists\, psychiatrists\, psychotherapists\, counselors\, social workers\, psychiatric nurses\, caregivers\, or anyone from the larger community – to explore\, understand and re-think themes related to mental health and psychotherapy. SUMMARY:ReadAbsorbthink! Lecture - What am I doing in this group ?
DESCRIPTION:“What am I doing in this group?\nI wont be comfortable talking in a group\nI don’t want to share my therapy space\nWhat if I don’t like other group members?\nWhat if other group members don’t like me?”\nThis lecture aims to highlight themes around the terror of joining/being part of a group. It will draw from the facilitator’s personal experiences of struggling to join groups\, perspectives of their patients who refused to join a group as well as those who are in a group. Further\, this lecture is an attempt to understand this terror in the social political context as well as the family systems in India.\n  \n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nReadAbsorbThink! or RAT! is an academic space for those interested in the field of mental health – service users\, psychologists\, psychiatrists\, psychotherapists\, counselors\, social workers\, psychiatric nurses\, caregivers\, or anyone from the larger community – to explore\, understand and re-think themes related to mental health and psychotherapy. She completed her Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mental Health Action Trust) in 2016 and has been working at Hank Nunn Institute since. She shares a deep love for the mountains and the sea and isn’t a fan of city life. Between cooking and wolfing down meals\, you might find her developing community mental health initiatives or cosying up with a book and a hot cuppa. She is an introvert with a recent found passion for running groups. She is also training to be a group analyst. She loves to travel to places and between extremities – Finding a middle ground and staying in the grey is just not her jam. SUMMARY:ReadAbsorbthink! Lecture - Can I follow you ?
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEverything a therapist does or does not say is a disclosure\, but not necessarily an inappropriate one. – Thomas G. Gutheil\nSelf-disclosure is often a minefield in an age where most of us have online lives. Social media seems difficult to navigate for both therapist and patient – sometimes valiantly pretending the other exists only in the consulting room; other times\, coming face-to-face in the external world and trying to make sense of what we see or learn about each other. As therapists\, we might struggle with what it means to embody “Tabula Rasa”. Is it an imposed limitation? How do we feel about patients catching glimpses of our personal lives? Does it always diminish the transference\, or can it enhance both transference and countertransference?\nJoin us for this month’s ReadAbsorbThink! SUMMARY:ReadAbsorbThink! Lecture - Who do you think you are?
DESCRIPTION:The dilemma of claiming authority among early-career therapists\nWhere does authority lie and what are the means by which one is able to claim it? Even if one claims authority\, one is not sure whether or not they are telling the ‘truth’ – Who decides? What are the consequences of not claiming one’s authority? These have been some of the questions that have lingered on my mind over the course of my development as a psychotherapist. I am aware that my peers and colleagues have also grappled with similar concerns in their own journeys which leads me to believe that it is an inevitable part of the process of becoming. Over the course of my ruminations – several of which I will share with you – I have considered the ‘therapist’s insecurities’\, aspects of the larger context within which the work is done\, some of the ways in which these anxieties are managed by individuals and certain influences that have helped me in this process.\n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nReadAbsorbThink! or RAT! is an academic space for those interested in the field of mental health – service users\, psychologists\, psychiatrists\, psychotherapists\, counselors\, social workers\, psychiatric nurses\, caregivers\, or anyone from the larger community – to explore\, understand and re-think themes related to mental health and psychotherapy. SUMMARY:ReadAbsorbThink! Lecture - The Inheritance of FEAR
DESCRIPTION:Fear…an emotion known to us all and yet spoken about in secrecy.\n“First I learned to be afraid and then I learned to hide the fear. Fear is essential for my survival. But is it only with fear that I can live my life…or rather be alive? ‘Be careful…don’t do that…it’s only because we love you’\, they say. Why is it then that I feel the fear freeze me and not the love as I take steps towards being brave?”\nI write this piece in an attempt to create a space for us to give a voice to our fears. While there is enough and more scientific evidence highlighting the genetic transmission of fears (especially phobias)\, I would like to use this opportunity to explore and understand how fears are inherited and manifested socially and culturally in the guise of subtle messages of love and care.\n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nReadAbsorbThink! or RAT! is an academic space for those interested in the field of mental health – service users\, psychologists\, psychiatrists\, psychotherapists\, counselors\, social workers\, psychiatric nurses\, caregivers\, or anyone from the larger community – to explore\, understand and re-think themes related to mental health and psychotherapy. SUMMARY:ReadAbsorbThink! Lecture - Group Therapy as a Nomadic Experience
DESCRIPTION:Placing emotions and relationships at the center of human experience\, this lecture throws up some questions on the nature of experience in a therapy group. Keeping in mind that the therapy group exists in a social context\, members and facilitators seem to pitch their tents on the fringes and what emerges is a dilemma of belonging – “Do I fit in”?\nThe process of dialogue creates an opportunity to reflect on where one comes from – their roots – and the search unravels the complexities of our modern minds and our ancient hearts. We are all travellers who stay in this group doing what nomads do\, creating a pasture\, helping each other\, and sharing resources. And then when the time comes\, we move on\, perhaps to other pastures\, finding a place to fit in\, within rather than on the fringes of\, society.\n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThemes\n\n\n\nThis lecture will focus on exploring the following themes and attempt to answer these questions from individual and collective perspectives.\n – Are therapy groups a nomadic pasture where people come in to pitch their tent for a while before moving on ?\n – The struggle to include and be included at the personal\, social\,community and societal level.\n – Desiring to be wanted and feeling wanted: A struggle for the search of belonging.\n – What sets us out in the search for a home ?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\nReadAbsorbThink! or RAT! is an academic space for those interested in the field of mental health – service users\, psychologists\, psychiatrists\, psychotherapists\, counselors\, social workers\, psychiatric nurses\, caregivers\, or anyone from the larger community – to explore\, understand and re-think themes related to mental health and psychotherapy. SUMMARY:PsyChaat '20 | Elephants In The Room
DESCRIPTION:Every year\, Kairos organizes an annual event aimed at addressing concerns regarding our mental health. This year\, Kairos wants to talk about the things that go unsaid\, the thoughts that don’t come into the light\, and the emotions that get swept under the rug.\nWhat happens when we delve deep into the collective unconscious?\nHow have our identities intersected with our mental health?\nIs it possible to name the hidden through song?\nWhat does it mean to associate financial resources with mental health care? \n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is it for ?\n\n\n\n For anybody who wants to discuss things that go under the rug\, go unsaid and unexplored.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nModules\n\n\n\n\nInto The Shadows | Social Dreaming\nTime : 9:00am – 11:00am\nFacilitator : Shama Parkhe\nDescription : Participants are invited to share their dreams from previous nights or weeks. Everyone is encouraged to provide associations for these dreams\, letting them move through the room seeking resonance. The invitation is to be aware of your thoughts and feelings as they come and go\, and share whatever you wish to. A discussion will follow where we will look at the associations and connections (created by the group) and attempt to understand them against the larger socio-cultural context. The only ask is to be honest and open in saying whatever comes to your mind.\n\n\n \nCloak of Invisibility: Intersectional Identities & Mental Health (Panel)\nTime : 11:30am – 1:00pm\nFacilitator : Hena Faqurudheen\nDescription : We are inviting service-users to reflect and speak on the intersection of identity with their experiences with the Indian mental health system. Three panellists will speak from lived experiences of caste\, disability\, and queerness in conjunction with mental health.\nThe panel discussion is 50 minutes in duration; the moderator will pose 2-3 questions for all panellists\, in dialogue with each other. The remaining time is split as 30 mins for audience Q&A and 10 mins for conclusion. The event will be ISL accessible in an effort to be inclusive; it will also be recorded for editing and putting up on our platforms.\n\n\n \nThe Song I Won’t Sing: Spoken Word/Poetry\nTime : 3:30pm-4:30pm\nFacilitator : Arushi Bradu\nDescription : The workshop aims to encourage people to look at their personal elephants in the room. Words and rhyme are used as mediums of acknowledging and expressing these thoughts. The idea is to engage with the group\, a representation of the outside world\, one from which we tend to hide these very emotions and thoughts. It is to encourage a conversation or bringing forth of these challenging thoughts\, through words and poetry.\n\n\n \nChailogue: Money Matters in Mental Health\nTime : 6:00pm-8:00pm\nFacilitator : Pratiksha Tewari\nDescription : The workshop aims to encourage people to look at their personal elephants in the room. SUMMARY:Assessments & Formulations in the context of Psychotherapy
DESCRIPTION:For many mental health professionals\, assessments are the first interaction with a patient. It is a space for mutual understanding\, and it sets the tone for a patient’s engagement with the mental health system. In this right\, assessments become a complex process of gathering information\, assessing an individual’s psychological needs and putting forth a comprehensive understanding of their needs. Given this complexity\, it becomes imperative to not only develop an efficient skill set\, but to also review it at regular intervals.\nThis webinar series presents the Assessment and Formulation framework that HNI follows and allows participants to have the space to think about\, exchange ideas on\, and understand the process of assessments and writing formulations.\n\nREGISTER\n\n\nZoom link will be sent post confirmation of registration through full payment*\n*all payments are non-refundable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSubjects covered\n\n\n\n\n– The Need for Assessments\n– How to Conduct Assessments\n– The Power Threat Meaning Framework\n– The Bio-Psycho-Social Framework\n– The Relational Framework\n– Challenges in Conducting Assessments\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDates\n\n\n\nOct 6\, 13\, 20\, 27 & Nov 3\nKindly check your availability for all dates before registering\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\n\n9:00am – 10:30am\, Tuesdays\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n₹1500 (full webinar)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFacilitators\n\n\n\nMohit Sharma\, Psychotherapist\nIshani Badyal\, Psychotherapist\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nContact\n\n\n\nKrishna\nkrishna@hanknunninstitute.org
