Mosaic is an online therapeutic community (TC) for practitioners, researchers, or students interested in mental health, community work, and building relationships. The co-founders of Hank Nunn Institute designed the space based on their experience working with therapeutic communities and environments in the UK. It initially began as a learning space for the staff at HNI, where they could have a training day once a week and experience the core values of belonging to a TC.

The community started in October 2017, in Bangalore, where the team would meet in person and share different groups throughout the day, including eating lunch together, and participating in fun and creative activities. As the HNI community grew and developed outside of Bangalore, Mosaic membership changed, and a laptop joined the community in the different spaces – this laptop became known as “Skyple,” and members of the community who were not in Bangalore were able to join the groups via Skype. This was the beginning of remote access. When Covid-19 came, the community moved from in-person to online and Mosaic became a reflective and experiential learning space, opening up our TC to non-HNI folk, in India and beyond.

Mosaic offers clinical learning along with a deep understanding of group dynamics and processes using therapeutic community methodology and relational practice principles. The Democratic TC  approach aims to marry and blend into other schools of thought and professions, encouraging people from different walks of life to learn together as a community.. Different roles and responsibilities are taken up by members, through which the community is held ‘in mind’ outside of the weekly space.
